Cargo

The movie Cargo catered to a very popular thing happening today in this world; human trafficking. Cargo is a l film that not really addresses the issue, it does take a stark, realistic look at a young Russian woman who is taken and being transported. Cargo is a perfect film for mystery and horror film lovers to get really invested into ; such as myself.  Once I started watching it I was immediately invested in the scary world that the main character  Natasha is unwittingly thrown in to. The main core of the film is the relationship between Sayed and Natasha. She is frightened and just wants to be let go. Sayed is a Muslim from Egypt. They couldn’t be more different personalities. Even though Natasha is a victim, she still has a strong and determined personality. Rinis does an amazing job bringing her to life with incredible realism. She is humiliated, treated like an animal, but her spirit is so strong and this all shines through in her character. She made the film for me. Sayed is also a strong personality, making his almost despicable character sympathetic. Both actord did such an amazing job in the film taking viewers on the traumatic journey.

Cargo doesn’t focus too much on the actual business of human trafficking. It’s more of a character drama about two clashing individuals with clashing ideals trying to make the other understand. If I hadn't had previous knowledge of human trafficking, I wouldn't have really known that was the basis of the film. Cargo was a good film for mature audiences , because this kind of stuff happens everyday and we should be aware!

Sherlock Jr.

Buster Keaton directed, as well as starred in, Sherlock Jr. It is one of his most special effects filled films. Some of the tricks he pulls here have been used a thousand times since, and although this movie is nearing a  hundred years old, they still look good . Buster Keaton's Sherlock Jr. was the 1st silent film I had ever seen, so I did not know what to expect. When I first heard it was a silent film my intial thought was "O boy this is going to be blaze` ," but luckily I was wrong. The film actually made me laugh! Totally not what i was expecting. Buster Keaton did a good job of telling a story within a story and Sherlock Jr. was probably one of the 1st films to actually do this. The structure of the movie is brilliant. Keaton is a love starved movie projectionist with dreams of being a great detective. He then gets falsely accused of a crime and with no recourse, save his dreams, falls asleep and into the world of the movies. Hollywood as the Dream Factory personified.

The film was filled with many great scenes that made you get a feeling of awe and fun. The truly amazing scenes all take place during the dream sequence. I'd have to say the most impressive one is when Keaton walks into the movie screen and then jumps from scene to scene. There were also two ther great scenes that stood out, one where Keaton leaps through a window and straight into a disguise in one swift motion and another where Keaton jumps literally straight through his assistant. I must say I have never seen anything so smooth in a film before.

Although it was a silent film , Keaton captured the emotion well, being that it was silent the emotional appeal is the biggest aspect of the film and it definately stood out. Sherlock Jr. was an all around good comedy for all to enjoy

The Wizard Of Oz (1939)

We're off ? To Oz!

As a child in America, growing up it was only right to see the Wizard of Oz. The Wizard of Oz is one of a very few shared experiences that unite Americans as a culture. We all see it when we are young, and it leaves an indelible mark on our imaginations. We can hardly imagine not knowing it. The Wizard of Oz is probably one of the best classic movies of all time because it successfully targeted audiences of all ages. It ranks among our earliest and most defining experiences of wonder and of fear, of fairy-tale joys and terrors, of the lure of the exotic and the comfort of home.

The film triggered so many aspects of your imagination , mainly because there was so much going on and it was all so great to say the least. Director Victor Fleming did an amazing job on the film. He did a fantastic job on working with the actors, especially the four friends whom embark down the "yellow brick road," because their chemistry comes off as 4 human friends and not a young gir, lion, tin man and a scare crow. Each thrill yet excitement in each scene from beginning to end is something that you will remember for the rest of your life. The film was basically a blueprint for future films in the way in which it left you to figure out what was going to happen next without foreshadowing the events in the beginning.

One theme that stood out to me was that of female power. In most movies, the guy is the hero. Think of The Hulk, Spiderman, Transformers etc. Whereas in this movie, all the men seem sort of powerless, unable to control their own fate. Even the Wizard seems weak in his own way. The power figures in the movie are Dorothy, Glinda, and the Witch.

The Wizard of Oz set the foundation for our childhood, it  is a film that will be passed on from generation to generation.

Harold Ramis

Harold Ramis was like the god father of comedy. His films were sure to make you laugh if not , you probably didn't have a since of humor! Movie fans should know exactly who he was and what an impact he will leave on comedies to come. Who is Harold Ramis? some might ask. Harold Allen Ramis was an American actor, director, and writer specializing in comedy. His best-known film acting roles are as Egon Spengler in Ghostbusters and Russell Ziskey in Stripes; he also co-wrote both films. There have been very few voices in comedic film more important than Harold Ramis. Over decades, on both sides of the camera, Ramis’ prolific career saw him at the helm or as part of the production of some of the most influential comedy films of all time. Even if his career began and ended with any one of Ghostbusters, Stripes, Animal House, Groundhog Day or Caddyshack, he would still have been an influential talent in comedy. The fact that he was a driving force behind all of these films, and more, is a staggering testament to the man’s talents.

Ramis got his start working in a mental institution and as a newspaper writer in his early years. What better combo than a mental institution and writing for a newspaper give you better comedy training? ha!  Ramis began studying with the Second City improvisation troupe and his comedy career began to flourish taking him everywhere from being a joke editor and writer for Playboy to a writer and performer with Second City’s classic sketch comedy program SCTV. His legacy will surely live on for decades to come, being known as one of the best writers for comedy of all time. Sadly his life had to end so so soon, because at the time of his death it was said that he was working on Ghostbusters 3! Now that would have been a good one. May his soul rest in peace and his works live in infamy.

The Game BET Seaoson 7 Finale

Ayo Game fans!

The Game on BET had it's season finale last Tuesday and boy was it a good one! So mcuh happened in so little time , and it was full of suprises as usual. There were tears, smiles, love and confusion. I was in awe throught the whole episode, and this is how it all played out.

First, Chardonnay gets ready for her wedding, with Brittany and Keira as her bridesmaids. Keira talks about how Blue is trying to stop her from going to Miami, but Chardonnay shuts the thought of that down, because it's her wedding day, and she doesn't want to hear about Blue and Keira's  problems. Jason knocks at the door, and reveals that a lot is going wrong. Tasha's in labor, and Malik and Kelly are going to the hospital to be with her. Plus, Chardonnay's own parents' flight was late, and now there's no one to walk her down the aisle. Safe to say, the wedding was unraveling at the seams.
Secondly, Blue and Keira get into another confrontation about Keira's new movie filming in Miami. Blue seems to be insecure about her spending time away with him with other co-stars, since she slept with her last one. As Jason watches, he lets them know how much they remind him of Derwin and Melanie (old characters on the show) To Jason, being in a relationship at this age is pointless, since they both have their own careers and lives to live. He advises them to take a break from each other, and maybe revisit a relationship in a few years.
Third, Malik, Kelly, Yana, and Bibs wait at the hospital for Tasha. Malik reveals that he's working out with a few teams next week, which Yana begins to object to, they have an argument and end things, however at this point Tasha is ready to have her baby so the shows focus was on Tasha . Tasha's pregnancy goes smooth and she gives birth to the beautiful baby Kai.

Now for the big two suprises in the end!  back at the wedding, Blue admits to Keira that he thinks Jason may be right about them. However, Keira doesn't want to do that again. They both clearly love each other, so what's the point of breaking up again? They need to make it work, and at that ,moment he propses to her! Boy was it adorable, and now for the tear jerker... At the end of the episode, Chardonnay makes her march down the aisle. Chardonnay pulls out her phone with her vows. She admits that eloping wasn't what she wanted, but this ceremony makes everything real for her. Jason tries to say his vows, but I noticed that he kept looking back at Kelly! At first, I thought maybe she wrote the vows for him, and he forgot what to say, but he reveals that he's actually still in love with Kelly! After a huge slap at the alter, Chardonnay storms out.

The Game on BET will be back for season 8 and I cannot wait to see how it all plays out.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 6 (Flirting With Disaster)

The Real Housewives series is Bravo Television's top frachise, and The Real Housewives of Atlanta is the top series out of them all. The ladies of Atlanta; Kenya, Nene, Phaedra, Porsha and Kandi and their husbands took on episode 6 of season 7 with a little drama filled vaction to Mexico payed for by Kenya. This was an episode where there was more tease than actual conflict. It was mostly revisiting old story lines , but adding a little bit more drama in them. The focus this episode of  was the flirting between Apollo ( Phaedra's Husband) and Kenya Moore. Now as fans and viewers of the show know,  Kenya and Apollo's innapropriate flirtation began last season when the cast went on vacation last year to Anguilla so this was nothing new.

In the beginning of the epsiode you see Phaedra is not sure if she want's to go on the trip or take Apollo, because she knows Kenya and Apollo are attracted to one another, but Phaedra goes to fulfill her “Real Housewives” duties and goes on the free trip, and even brings Apollo along, hoping no trouble happens, but as you know that didn't happen.  The teases to this episode showed Kenya at a cave where she strips down to a bikini and jumps into a lagoon. They make it appear as if Apollo is leering at her though it’s not clear once we see the episode that is the case. He does goes in the water with a few others but nothing untoward happens. Quite anti-climactic, but there is some flirting going on in the eyes of Kenya.

Later the episode cuts to the husbands  smoking stogies at the resort bar, Kenya comes by on a mission.  She asks for time alone with Apollo in full view of everyone else, Peter suggests Todd babysit them. Soon, Apollo waves Todd off. So Todd and Peter watch the scene out of earshot from the bar. Kenya tells Apollo she is upset he is throwing shade at her via third parties. She says she has said nothing untoward toward or about him,. She feels she has respected his marriage with Phaedra. He too claims he has been a Boy Scout, that she has been the flirty one. He says he even chose not to sleep with her though he could have. She sort of denies that’s necessarily the case but not terribly convincingly. There is clearly an attraction between the two and the argument devolves into a giggly, laugh fest.

In the end the episode definately could have been better than just focusing on Kenya and Apollo's innapropriate love fest.

The Game BET Season 7 Premiere

Boom Boom Clap! Boom Boom Clap!

Season 7 of The Game on BET kicked off on March 24th and boy was it a show! All of the main characters were back for the season premeire; Tasha Mack, Jason and Chardonnay Pitts, Keira Whitaker, Brye Westbrook AKA Blue , and Malik Wright. The episode opened where season 6 left off with all characters in their current scenarios. The 1st scene was of Keira and Blue in the elevator , and of course it was awkward, because they broke up last season . The show then cut to Jason and Chardonnay discussing his award he was getting for the night with his parents. The episode was full of suprises, but their were 3 main ones. The show then cut to Keira and Chardonnay talking about her trying to get Blue back. Followed was the 1st suprise of the night; Tasha realized she was pregnant; keep in mind Tasha is 40 on the show so the fact that she was pregnant caught we as fans of the show by suprise.

The 2nd suprise of the night then came about when Keira caught Blue in the bathroom having a love affair with his date. Keira was hurt of course as she watched, because the scene before she and Chardonnay were just discussing on how she could win Blue back. As a long time fan of the show, watching the scene I was a little sad, because I was cheering for Keira and Blue to get back together. The 3rd and final suprise of the night was Malik trying to get revenge of the guy that shot him last season. He and his body guard were plotting on how to get him back, now being that Malik had moved on from the sistuation last season we thought he was done with the situation, but boy were we wrong.

This season of the Game on BET is going to be filled with lots of love, drama, fighting, and crying and I can't wait to see how it all plays out. You too can watch every Tuesday at 9:00 on BET!
